Clearly Different

The Invisalign System is a revolutionary new form of orthodontic care that does away with the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. Instead, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays, called aligners, to move teeth to their optimal positions. The aligners are virtually invisible and completely removable, easy to pop in and out for brushing, flossing, eating, and drinking. This means that no one will know you're straightening your teeth, maintaining oral hygiene is easy, and Invisalign carries none of the dietary restrictions of braces!

To begin your treatment, Dr. Ward will take a series of measurements of your teeth and mouth, using them to form a fully realized 3D computer model of your bite. He'll use this model to plan out exactly how each tooth will need to move to get to its optimal position, and based on this movement plan, Invisalign will manufacture you a customized set of aligners. You'll wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, and treatment times last on average 6-18 months. With each new set, your teeth will move closer to their final positions, and before you know it, you'll have a brand new, healthy, beautiful smile!

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

invisalign3Q. How often do I need to wear my aligners? A. You'll need to wear them about 22 hours a day – removing them only to eat, drink, brush, or floss.

Q. Do I need to avoid certain foods? A. No! Unlike regular braces, Invisalign carries no dietary restrictions. Just remember to brush your teeth and your aligners after you eat!

Q. Will my speech be affected? A. You may notice some speech changes for a short period when you first start with Invisalign, but this will go away as you get used to talking with your aligners in.

Q. Does it hurt? A. You may feel pressure on your teeth for a day or two when you get after each initial insertion – don't worry though, this is a sign that your teeth are moving and will fade quickly.

Q. Is chewing gum ok? A. We ask that you remove your aligners before chewing gum to avoid it sticking to the aligners.

Q. What about smoking? A. While we discourage smoking in any circumstance, cigarette smoke will discolor your aligners. If you do need to smoke, please remove them to do so.

Q. How do I clean them? A. Cleaning is easy: just brush them with toothpaste as you would your teeth or a retainer.

Q. How often will I need to make appointments? A. We'll need to see you about every 5-6 weeks. This will let us ensure that your treatment is going perfectly.

Q. What happens once I'm done? A. As with all orthodontic patients, once you finish your treatment, your retention phase will begin. We’ll give you ample instruction on when and how to use your retainers.

Q. How long will it take? A. Lengths vary depending on the patient, but on average, treatment lasts 6 to 18 months.

Q. Can kids get Invisalign? A. Absolutely! So long as their teeth (including their second molars) have erupted, Invisalign is an option for children.
